Asylum Granted to Portland Immigrant
Marita (her name is changed at her request) was arrested and detained in Portland, OR during the Del Monte Plant raid in 2007. After numerous court hearings, she was granted asylum on March 30 of this year.
Marita is the first of the women being accompanied by the Oregon New Sanctuary Members to receive asylum. Several others are waiting for their cases to be finalized.
Marita, like many of her sisters received asylum based on her history of physical and mental abuse , imprisonment by her abuser, and being stalked by the man. She fled to the USA in the late 1990’s and now enjoys a safe family relationship with her partner and 9 year old son, Roberto (name changed).
Her one grief is her separation from two adult daughters who live in Mexico.
